Christmas Concert 2015

Our Heritage

Divine Child High School Bands and Choirs have been providing the musical backdrop for DC events for five decades.  Whether performing locally, nationally, or internationally, our Falcon musicians and vocalists have joyfully shared their considerable talent and represented Divine Child with pride.

Today

This year, Divine Child High School Bands will celebrate 50 years of musical excellence.   Over 100 musicians, the most in school history, are carrying on DC’s proud musical tradition.  Our choirs are sharing their sound with the DC and metro-Detroit communities. In 2013 and 2014 they performed with Kenny Rogers at the Fox Theatre and will be providing much of the talent for this year’s production of The Phantom of the Opera.

Curriculum

Music Theory

Students are introduced to the concepts and principles of basic music theory and sight singing by exploring the fundamentals of harmony, melody, interval study, and other aspects of music.

Music Appreciation

Students learn to listen to music as a form of art, gaining an understanding of various types, forms and styles of instrumental and vocal music of the world. Representative works of all periods and cultures, including contemporary developments, are studied.

Beginning Band

Students with no musical experience learn the fundamentals of playing a wind or percussion instrument and how that instrument functions in an ensemble. Students also learn basic music theory.

Varsity Chorus/Advanced Varsity Chorus

This mixed ensemble is designed for students who enjoy singing as well as for those who are just learning about their voice and the fundamentals of music.

Keyboarding

This class is designed for the beginner, but also accommodates piano/keyboard players at the intermediate and advanced levels. Music theory, music notation, and music vocabulary are discussed throughout the course.

The Jazz Ensemble provides our students the opportunity to study and perform jazz music. With performances throughout the State of Michigan and Ohio, the DC Jazz Ensemble brings a touch of class to many events.

Pep Band

The Pep Band is a smaller group of Marching Band members who travel to away football games, home hockey and basketball games, and perform at all school pep rallies. Our Pep Band is student run by seniors who are elected during the previous spring semester.
